A look at what's going on at Northwest ski resorts

The springlike weather that settled into the Northwest last week has given way to a series of weak disturbances, which amounted to a little bit of new snow or light rain at all ski and snowboard areas.

The springlike weather that settled into the Northwest last week has given way to a series of weak disturbances, which amounted to a little bit of new snow or light rain at all ski and snowboard areas.

This weather pattern is expected to persist until Friday, and then turn to more new snow as the freezing elevation drops back down this weekend and heading into early next week.

Those planning an out-of-state getaway will be glad to know snow conditions have improved in British Columbia, Colorado, Utah, Oregon, California, Idaho and Montana.

The Legendary Banked Slalom Snowboard Race, which began in 1985 before snowboarding had made its mark in winter sports, is Friday through Sunday at the Mount Baker Ski Area. Maelle Ricker, winner of the gold medal in women's snowboard cross at the 2010 Olympics, will defend her slalom title. Ricker has won the event the past five years. Spectators are welcome to view the North Face Masters of Snowboarding, the largest North American big mountain snowboarding tour, which comes to the slopes of Crystal Mountain Resort Feb. 15-17. For details, visit www.thenorthfacemasters.com.

The Summit at Snoqualmie is offering the Sweet Heart on the Slopes Deal from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Tuesday, with two-for-one lift tickets and chocolate. For details, visit www.summitatsnoqualmie.com.

The Cascade Foothills Farmland Association and Leavenworth Winter Sports Club are hosting the Wine, Chocolate & Ski Event Friday through Tuesday from noon to 5 p.m. each day in downtown Leavenworth. The Panorama Mountain Village Resort in British Columbia has a 49-Hour Sale, Sunday through Tuesday. The Crystal Mountain Resort Triple Crown of Washington State's Junior Freeride Championship is Saturday and April 21. The event is open to skiers and snowboarders 11 to 18, with limited slots available. Registration is online and costs $85. The two-day Roxy All-Star Snow Camps begin next month for women and girls 13 and older at Whistler-Blackcomb Resort in British Columbia.

The clinics are this Saturday and Sunday, then March 3-4, March 17-18 and April 14-15, and the teen camp March 24-25. All are open for any level of skier or snowboarder with options of learning park, pipe, freestyle and big mountain riding.

The White Pass Ski Area's Top of the Hill Adult Workshop is 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. this Saturday, and Feb. 25, March 10 and March 24. The workshop offers is for novice to expert skiers and snowboarders over 18. Cost is $65 per day and $250 for the entire series.

The Kids Clinic offers skiing or snowboarding for ages 5 to 12, with lunch, snacks and lift tickets included. Dates are this Saturday and Sunday, and Feb. 25-26, March 10-11 and March 24-25. For details on both events, visit http://skiwhitepass.com.
