Stroke! Look! Stroke! Look!

Seattle Times reader Steve Todd's photo of sunrise crew practice on Lake Washington.

Photographer: Steve Todd, crew coach, Oregon State University, Corvallis

Photo taken: Feb. 4, on Lake Washington

Photographer's description: "An intercollegiate group of rowers trains together in an early-morning practice on Lake Washington. Taken with an iPhone."

Expert says: "This early morning photo takes advantage of the interesting light and color that can be found only at the beginning or end of the day. The lines created by the clouds and the rowers lead to a single vanishing point, directing the eye through the photo. Suggestion: While foreground objects give the photo perspective, as if viewers are seeing it with their own eyes, they should be included only if identifiable and clear."
