TEMPE, Ariz. — Sophomore pitcher Kaitlin Inglesby hit a two-run, first-inning home run to left-center field to spark 12th-ranked Washington to a 4-0 victory over No. 21 Nebraska in the teams' 2012 softball season opener Thursday afternoon.

"Overall it was a well-played game," said Huskies coach Heather Tarr. "Defensively we played as expected, and offensively we had several opportunities to score runs against a very good pitcher."

Inglesby had two of Washington's five hits off Nebraska ace Ashley Hagemann, driving in a third run in the third inning. Taylor Smith plated the Huskies' fourth run with a third-inning RBI single.

On the mound, Inglesby allowed just two hits, walked two and struck out five in the complete-game shutout.
