Fashion week means different things to different cities. New York
famously hosts a series of runway shows put on by individual designers.
Portland and Seattle invite designers to participate in collaborative
shows. In Bellevue, stores at The Bellevue Collection (Bellevue Square, Bellevue Place and Lincoln Square)
produce a weeklong fashion extravaganza (now in its fourth year). This
year the event runs from Tuesday, Sept. 29 through Sunday, Oct. 4 and
benefits the Boys & Girls Club of Bellevue.

In a world of from-the-box getups and annual repeat performances, it really spices up the Halloween season to showcase your creativity by crafting a costume from scratch (or at least seriously altering something pre-existing).
In hopes of inspiring some truly unique aliases this year, I interviewed friends and acquaintances whose past handmade costumes have inspired me and asked them to divulge their local costume resources. Here is the list of stores where they found some inspiration.

With autumn in the air, so
begins the time-honored tradition of celebrating the harvest. Although we're
more than a few miles from our rural roots, Seattle's got its own urban-style harvest party
at Seattle Tilth's Harvest Fair on Saturday, Sept. 12 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. You can stock up on everything you'll need to keep your
garden growing into the fall and winter months, and
shop the Urban Marketplace for locally made goods such as soap, organic
clothing, honey, jams, jellies, teas and chocolate.
